MEET THE TEAM
Welcome to
LET'S TOK SPEECH THERAPY
Neurodiversity-Affirming Speech Therapy, Coaching, & Education
Let's Tok Speech Therapy offers support to families to help little ones express themselves with confidence!

We believe that children learn best through play, so our sessions are uniquely designed with each child's interests, goals, and sensory needs in mind.
We have in-person spots available in North York (and some surrounding areas) for children needing support at home, daycare, or private school. Online speech therapy services are also available to families across Ontario, providing a more convenient option to busy families.
THERAPY & COACHING SERVICES
We focus on strengths & build on what your child can already do.
Virtual and in-home therapy options are convenient and accessible.
We also offer 12-week parent courses and workshops!

SOCIAL COMMUNICATION / AUTISM
We focus on improving an autistic child’s quality of life through a strengths-based lens while honouring their sensory needs and interests. Rather than moulding them to fit "normal" standards as typically seen in ABA practices, we ensure that autistic children feel accepted and loved, irrespective of their differences.

OROFACIAL MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY
In myofunctional therapy, children are guided to complete exercises that improve the strength, coordination, and positioning of their mouth and throat muscles. By treating the root cause, we are able to improve a child's speech, breathing, sleep, and feeding challenges with ease.

What is the intake process like at Let's Tok Speech Therapy?First, fill out the contact form at the bottom of the website Once your request has been received, you will be contacted by the speech-language pathologist by email or phone within 24 hours During the call, we will ask you to provide more information about your child and some of the challenges they are experiencing with respect to their communication If your child has already been assessed by another speech-language pathologist within the past 6 months, we can bypass the assessment and book an SLP or CDA session, depending on availability, needs, etc. If your child hasn't been assessed by another speech-language pathologist within the past 6 months, we will invite you to book an SLP assessment to have a better understanding of your child's strengths, needs, and preferences through informal and/or formal assessment tasks At the end of the assessment, your speech-language pathologist will review the findings of the assessment and create a therapy plan along with a list of speech therapy goals and recommendations for your child

What is a Speech-Language Pathologist?A Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), or speech therapist, is responsible for the identification, assessment, and treatment of communication disorders. A speech therapist's scope of practice includes the provision of assessment, treatment, and consultation services for: Language delays (expressive and/or receptive language) Speech delays and disorders including apraxia, dysarthria, articulation concerns, etc. Stuttering and cluttering Autism (and other social communication needs) Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) Early Intervention (Birth - 3) Literacy (reading and writing)
-
What is a Communicative Disorders Assistant?A Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) works under the guidance of an SLP. They cannot assess clients, but they are trained and have clinical expertise in all areas of speech and language. They are responsible for delivering therapy and implementing agreed-upon goals determined by the SLP. Having an SLP complete the assessment before transferring over to a CDA for a block of speech therapy sessions is a great option for families who are looking for something more affordable and with greater flexibility scheduling-wise (i.e., after-school and weekend spots). Our CDAs are all supervised under an SLP, whose registration number will appear on receipts.
-
What is the neurodiversity-affirming approach? The neurodiversity-affirming approach recognizes and respects the diverse ways brains function. At Let's Tok Speech Therapy, this approach involves honouring each child's sensory needs and interests, focusing on their strengths and ensuring they feel accepted and valued without trying to mould them to fit "normal" standards.
-
Do you work with autistic children?Yes! Let's Tok Speech Therapy provides support to families of autistic children. We focus on enhancing an autistic child's quality of life through a strengths-based approach, and honouring their sensory needs, preferences, and interests. Let's Tok Speech Therapy ensures that autistic children feel accepted and valued, irrespective of their differences.
-
What does a speech assessment look like?A speech assessment will look different depending on your child’s age and needs. The speech therapist will gather information from different sources including parent report, observations, standardized assessment tasks, and an informal play-based assessment. Your speech therapist will look at play skills, social communication, expressive and receptive language, speech, literacy, etc. to guide them when creating your child's therapy plan and goals for ongoing speech therapy sessions.
-
Where are you located? We offer in-home speech therapy support in North York, so families can fit therapy into their busy schedules with no need to commute. We also offer virtual sessions.
-
Do you offer after-school and weekend appointments?Yes, but there's a waitlist for those times (with the exception of assessments) if you're looking to work with a speech therapist. Communicative Disorders Assistants (CDAs) have more flexibility scheduling-wise. This is also a great option if you're looking for something more affordable.
-
Do I need a referral from my Doctor? No. A doctor's referral is not necessary to access private speech therapy services. It may be required, however, by your extended health care plan. Please be sure to ask your benefits provider to be safe.
-
Do you accept funding from Ontario Autism Program (OAP)?Yes, families may use their OAP funding allocation to purchase core clinical services and supports, including speech-language pathology services. OAP funding can also be used to pay for CDA sessions, given that the SLP supervisor's registration number will appear on all receipts.
-
Are private speech therapy services covered by OHIP?No. SLP and CDA services are not covered by OHIP. However, most insurance providers and OAP provide coverage for such services. Every plan is different, so please be sure to ask beforehand.
-
What payment methods are accepted?E-transfer and all card payments (including debit, Mastercard, and Visa). Upon receipt of payment, you will be provided with a receipt for tax/insurance purposes. We do not provide direct billing at this time.
-
How long is each session?SLP assessments are booked for an hour. We offer 1-hour and 45-min speech therapy sessions. 30-min sessions are only reserved for virtual speech therapy sessions. The recommended frequency and length of your child's speech therapy sessions will be shared with you at the end of the assessment and can always be adjusted later on depending on preferences, therapy progress, etc.
